Respiratory Protective Equipment; Selection & Fit Testing
Overview :
This Arresting You Ltd. Training Program is designed to provide management and workers with information on the selection, use, maintenance and inspection of a respirator.
The program makes reference to legislation that identifies the responsibility of employers to make specific respiratory protective equipment available to workers who may be exposed to harmful levels of airborne substances. Examples of this legislation can be found in the following texts.
- Alberta OHS. Code Part 18, Sections 244-255
- Saskatchewan OHS. Regulations, Part 7, Sections 88 - 90
- British Columbia OHS Regulations, Part 8, Section 8.32-8.45
The training program addresses the following topics.
- Introduction
- Legislation and Responsibilities
- Respiratory System (external, internal, cellular)
- Respiratory Hazards
- Determination of Respirator Need
- Selection of Suitable Respirator
- User Restrictions
- Fit Testing (Qualitative, Quantitative, Negative, Positive)
- Cleaning, Maintenance and Storage
The 70/30 Theory/Practical training program is accomplished in 6-8 hours. The program is limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
A theory exam (pass mark 70%) and a hands-on skills evaluation (Pass/Fail) ensures that the candidate has the knowledge and has demonstrated the basic skill to conduct a qualitative respiratory fit test.
