Sean Robertson
Sean started his career in the late eighties as a high-rise window cleaner. In those days hazard assessments were rare and the use of protective gear was sporadic at best. While cleaning the 5th floor windows at the Red Deer hospital a gust of wind sent his swing stage line into the path of a car. The line caught on the car bumper and as it drove away it abruptly pulled the swing stage away from the wall, pitching Sean off the front of the stage. Fortunately, Sean was protected by a belt, a rope lanyard and a puck grab. His fall was arrested about 12 feet down.
Sean walked away from the fall without a scratch. He did however gain a new perspective on fall protection and lives by the following rules:
- assess your hazards
- always wear your fall protection equipment
- know how to fit and inspect it properly
- regular maintenance is key
- understand anchor selection
- respect the risk
Sean has worked steadily in the field of Fall Protection since that time. His clients extend throughout the oil and gas industry and construction fields. Sean regularly works in conjunction with engineering experts to solve site-specific fall protection issues for clients such as Encana and Atco Electric. His technical knowledge is varied and includes:
- equipment expertise
- suspended access
- horizontal & vertical lifeline installations and certifications
- risk/hazard assessments
- site specific fall protection plan
- site specific fall protection audits
- site specific fall protection systems
- legislative requirements
- control levels
